Although he was not initially selected for the first test, he performed exceptionally well in the following three tests. Head displayed his batting prowess by scoring 55, 58, and 122 runs in the second, third, and fourth tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In the three-match ODI series, Head took on the role of the designated opener in the absence of David Warner and the retirement of former captain Aaron Finch. He had a successful run, scoring a total of 235 runs in three innings, with an average of 47.
