Riyan developed a passion for cricket at an early age, imitating his father, Parag Das who played 46 First-class and 32 List-A games for Assam. Coming from a family rooted in sports, with his mother Mithu Baruah being an international swimmer. Riyan had many sports to choose from. But, he chose cricket and his impressive performances in the 2017-18 season earned him a spot in the squad for the 2018 U-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
