Regarding his education, Oliver attended Cranleigh School, where he has a historical connection as the great-great-great-great-grandson of the school’s first headmaster, Joseph Merriman. Pope honed his skills by playing club cricket for Guildford and Cranleigh Cricket Clubs and represented many Surrey age-group teams.

Pope’s professional journey started with Surrey on 26th August 2016 when he signed a two-year contract with the club. Oliver debuted in List A cricket for Surrey in the semi-final of the 2016 Royal London One-Day Cup against Yorkshire just two days later.

His first-class debut followed on 28th March 2017 against Oxford MCCU during the Marylebone Cricket Club University fixtures. Throughout his career, ollie achieved good milestones, including his maiden List A half-century in May 2017 and his first-class century against Hampshire in 2017 at the age of 19.

The 2017/18 winter saw Pope participate in the ECB’s overseas placement program in Australia, where he played for Campbelltown-Camden District Cricket Club. He had an impressive season, scoring 994 runs, including three centuries.

In 2018, Oliver had a breakthrough year, hitting 4 centuries and averaging 70.42, earning him the PCA Young Player of the Year award. His success continued in 2019, finishing as the highest-scoring Surrey batter in first-class cricket with 812 runs at an average of 101.

Pope’s international journey started when he was selected to England’s team for the second Test against India at Lord’s in August 2018, making his Test debut. Oliver has since been part of many tours and series, including a tour of Sri Lanka, the Ashes, and matches against New Zealand and India. His performances have been noteworthy, scoring his maiden Test century against South Africa in Port Elizabeth.

Pope was appointed England’s vice-captain On 16th May 2023. This was another huge milestone in his cricketing career.
