Sears started his cricketing journey by making his List A debut for Wellington in the 2018–19 Ford Trophy on October 24, 2018. Before this, he was part of New Zealand’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Ben made his first-class debut for Wellington in the 2018–19 Plunket Shield season on December 6, 2018, and his Twenty20 debut in the 2018–19 Super Smash on December 31, 2018.
