Aamer Jamal was raised in Rawalpindi and started his cricketing journey in the local circuits around Rawalpindi. His domestic career started off in 2013, participating in inter-region Under-19 and departmental Under-19 tournaments.
After his stint with the Pakistan U19 team, Jamal streteched his cricketing efforts to club and league cricket in England. Upon returning to Pakistan, faced with limited opportunities in Grade II matches, Jamal resorted to unconventional means, securing a car through a bank loan and venturing into online taxi driving to sustain himself and support his family.
Aamer made his first-class debut for Pakistan Television during the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on 1st September 2018. Jamal List A debut for Pakistan Television in the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup occurred on 22nd September 2018.
In January 2021, Aamer got a spot in Northern’s squad for the 2020–21 Pakistan Cup, showcasing his consistent performance in the domestic circuit.
The breakthrough to international cricket came in September 2022 when Aamer Jamal was selected for Pakistan’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad against England. His T20I debut unfolded on 28th September 2022, against England.
Further recognition arrived in June 2023, as Aamer got a place in the Pakistani Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka. This was followed by another call-up in November 2023 for a 3-match Test series against Australia.
Aamer Jamal made a memorable debut in the first Test on 14th December 2023, claiming figures of 6/111 in the first innings. This achievement positioned Aamer as the 14th bowler for Pakistan to secure a five-wicket haul on Test debut.
Aamer Jamal got his name into the record books during the third Test match in Sydney, setting a new milestone for the highest score by a Pakistani batsman at No. 9 in Tests in Australia.
Entering the field with his team struggling at 7 for 220, Jamal showed remarkable resilience, contributing 82 runs off 97 deliveries. His exceptional innings played an important role in taking Pakistan to a competitive first-innings total of 313. During his innings, Jamal showed wide range of shots, accumulating 9 boundaries and 4 sixes on his way to securing his maiden Test half-century.
This score surpassed the earlier record held by Wasim Bari, who had scored 72 runs from 113 deliveries in Adelaide back in 1972. Jamal’s performance not only underscored his individual talent but also proved instrumental in bolstering Pakistan’s position in the match.
