Neil initially shifted to King’s College, Taunton, with the aim of qualifying to play for the England cricket team before returning to South Africa at the end of 2017.
Neil had his first-class debut with Cardiff MCCU against Glamorgan in April 2015 and his List A debut for Northerns in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge in March 2018. He has also played in domestic T20 competitions, including the Africa T20 Cup.
In September 2018, Neil Brand was a team member of Northerns’ squad for the Africa T20 Cup and made his Twenty20 debut for Northerns in that competition. In April 2021, Neil Brand was part of Northerns’ squad for the 2021–22 cricket season in South Africa.
In November 2023, Neil Brand was made the captain of South Africa A for the West Indies A tour of South Africa. Later on, Neil made his Test debut for South Africa against New Zealand in February 2024. In an impressive performance, Neil Brand took 6/119 in the first innings, becoming the 25th South African to take five wickets on Test debut.
