Mallika Sagar- IPL auctioneer:
Mallika Sagar is a well-known figure in the sports and art fraternity, particularly recognized for her role as the host of the WPL (Women’s Premier League) auctions in 2023 and 2024. Hailing from Mumbai, Mallika is an esteemed art collector with nearly 25 years of experience in auctions. Before her involvement in cricket auctions, Sagar made her mark in the Pro Kabaddi League auctions.
With a specialization in modern and contemporary Indian art, Mallika Sagar has had experience in auctioning during her tenure at Mumbai’s renowned Pundole’s Art Galleries, where she has successfully led various auctions. Notably, Mallika Sagar made history at the age of 26 by becoming the first Indian auctioneer for Christie’s, showcasing her exceptional skills in the art world. Sagar is also credited as a pioneer in contemporary Indian art auctions.
Mallika Sagar introduction as the host of the WPL auctions marks a departure from the tradition of full-time overseas auctioneers. Mallika Sagar took over from Charu Sharma, who had stepped in for Hugh Edmeades during the 2023 auctions due to a medical emergency.
In the realm of IPL auctions, Mallika follows a notable line of auctioneers. Richard Madley, a former international hockey player and Surrey cricketer, conducted the IPL auctions from 2008 to 2018, leaving a huge mark with his British charm and mastery of the gavel.
Hugh Edmeades took over from Madley in 2019, bringing his huge experience as a British international fine art, classic car, and charity auctioneer at Christie’s, where he conducted thousands of auctions over a career spanning 35 years. Mallika Sagar now takes over this legacy, adding her unique touch to the prestigious IPL auctions.
